Encouraging Physical Activities In Preschoolers

The webinar talks about the importance of guiding students, especially young ones, on how to become physically active in schools. He mentions that it is a process that develops throughout life and this is why it is important to start at a very young age. For example, when a kid starts walking he or she must know when to stop, how to stop in balance, walk without touching walls and not to disturb whatever or whoever  is next to you. He also highlighted on the fact that certain locomotion skills are very basic and simple that we tend to forget about them however they do have a big impact on our lives.
How to do this in class?
First, we need space in order to provide room for an activity. Second, it is important to give directions like "here you stop -after 10 steps you must turn - walk slowly - look in front of you" and maybe assign pathways to help them learn how to walk in a straight line or follow a leader. The webinar was presented by a Dr. named Steve Sanders. He is a professor at a university in South Africa and it was very interesting to watch him live and have him communicate with us. He gave us some links and books to refer to and I advice everyone to give it a try.

  1. It's an interesting webinar! nice choice. Physical activity should be part of the educational system and it shouldn't be separated. Since it works in developing student's mental, emotional and physical abilities. I encourage every school to incorporate physical activities the way you tell it.
