Classroom Observation

For the purpose of anonymity I will refer to the teacher that I observed as Mr. Positive. The class that I sat in was comprised of students in grade levels 9-11.

1)Mr. Positive began the lesson checking in with the students seeing how they were doing.  (I believe getting a feel for the climate of the class is good way to start.) Next, he discussed what they were going to be working on essentially providing an outline for the class period.  Third, he checked to make sure the students had everything they needed in order to begin task discussed.

2)The class that I observed was a resource class so it did not have traditional transitions.  The students were doing their work independently.  When students completed their work they would raise their hand or walk up to Mr. Positive. Mr. Positive would review their work and begin each conversation with one to two positive points about the assignment and then review any changes that needed to be made.  Mr. Positive would then wrap up the conversation by describing more positive attributes about the task.

3)The one thing that stood out the most to me in Mr. Positive’s classroom management style was that he clearly had established relationships with the students. Mr. Positive also used humor often when talking with the students. This is not to be confused with sarcasm, which I believe can be very destructive to the student-teacher relationship.
The quality of relationship was also noticeable as the students exited the classroom.  Mr. Positive wished them a good day, but in response almost all of the students thanked him.The ones that did not thank him said they would see him tomorrow or gave some kind of acknowledgement. They genuinely respected Mr. Positive and looked forward to seeing him again.

PLAGIARISM

Be Original & Don't Plagiarize!

Since the rise of the internet plagiarism has become a great concern for many schools and colleges. To put it into simple terms plagiarism basically means to use the work that another individual has compiled and claim it as your own.
This includes purchasing work online, copying and pasting and also this can also be a result of student error when it comes to referencing.
Students can often feel pressurized by deadlines and the temptation to copy and paste or use work found online can be overwhelming. This includes the use of quote's, summarizing or paraphrasing which all need to be properly referenced.
It can also be the result of bad time management when an assignment is left to the last minute or the amount of time necessary to complete an assignment is not enough.
Students can often under estimate the seriousness of plagiarism which can result in being expelled from your school or college so as teachers it is very important to make sure they understand how to deliver information from different sources and give credit when needed.

It starts with a CH-

I am a part of the body.
I am above the waist.
I am where beards grow!
What am I?

I have legs and a back.
I am not alive.
You can sit on me,
but I'm not a sofa.
What am I?

I am a game for two players.
I am played on a board.
I am not checkers.
What am I?

I am a short part of a longer book.
My name has two syllables.
What am I?

Stay tuned into your child's world!

Encourage your child's gifts and passions,
even if their passions seem so unrealistic.
You don't know where it will lead them.
Watch him play!

Watching what your child chooses for himself
will give you a good idea of where his talents lie.
Give him real choices.
The key is to let your kid explore different angles of an activity, it opens his mind to unlimited possibilities.

PHILOSOPHY DAY!!

Because a picture says it all!
Think of how important it is to differentiate between those 3 terms and understand how they are related.

Tips for studying at home

Here are some tips for better efficiency while studying at home:

Eliminate all sorts of distraction
Make a study schedule
Speak OUT LOUD instead of simply reading

Plan study breaks of 15 minutes
CLEAR your mind of anything that doesn't have to do with the topic you are studying

Summarize or outline the information you need
Reward yourself with a treat
Break things into smaller parts, make flash cards, change pens

TEACH what you have learned!
Practice, practice, practice!

Stay tuned into your child's world!

Validate his interests,
telling him it's a waste of time may only squelch
his desire to pursue his interests.
Encourage your child to all kind of expression,
the minute he feels censored, he might stop expressing himself.
Put aside your own interest and prejudices,
whether your child loves or hates the activity you
want him to do, it's not a reflection of you.
